Recycling in Art is Smart and Fun!

Fall in love with Autumn!! Recycle a plastic bag---and make paper mache pumpkins! Students stuffed a store plastic bag with recycled paper. Rubber bands were used to make the ribs of the pumpkin, and to also tie off the handles which is the stem. The bag was then covered with strips of paper using glue and water. Then warm colors of tissue paper completed the pumpkin. Students learned about the process of paper mache, warm and cool colors, and the life of a pumpkin!

Mexico- Day of the Dead.

Students learned about traditional Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos, and all about Sugar Skulls.

My class had a chance to dabble in printmaking using styrofoam plates, a small press AND also learned that everyday objects such as the styrofoam can be upcycled or recycled and used for art. Students created their own sugar skull using the printmaking techniques.
