Hi! My name is Sara. I’m a Georgia native with an art degree from the University of Georgia (go dawgs)! I am also a certified Elementary School teacher and began my career teaching Kindergarten Special Education. I was thrilled when a position in the Adaptive Art department opened, because it has allowed me to combine my two passions- art and working with our students with special needs. I currently teach pre-k- fifth grade at Lake Windward Elementary, Ocee Elementary, Abbott’s Hill Elementary and Creekview Elementary. I love teaching art and am not afraid of getting messy! In my free time, I love spending time with my family, traveling and photography. I’m so grateful to be a part of this amazing team!

I am originally from Denver Colorado where my education includes: Associates in Illustration Media from the Rocky Mountain College of art. Dual Major BFA in Metalsmithing and Sculpture with a minor in Industrial Design from the Metropolitan State College of Denver.MFA/MH in Graduate Level Sculpture and Art History with an emphasis in film studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Prior to adaptive art I was a high school art teacher for five years. Before I began teaching, I worked as a Jeweler and freelance illustrator in advertising. I am also a studio artist with over twenty years of experience with my own studio at my home here in Georgia. Although I am adept at most forms of art my studio focus is in mixed media with a particular emphasis in sculpture and painting.

I am very excited to be a part of this amazing program and share my passion in the arts with our fabulous students.

I have been teaching for 20 years in Fulton County. I love teaching art and helping students find joy in making their own art and tapping into their endless well of creativity.  I am a proud graduate of Fulton County Schools graduating from Riverwood High School and continuing my education at the University of Colorado, Boulder and Kennesaw State University.  I enjoy spending time with my family , taking extra long walks with my mother and her dog Sadie, traveling, lakes and oceans, animals, and sports.  I grew up in Atlanta with 5 generations of Golden Retrievers so was always surrounded with bubbly, playful puppies.  Watercolor painting and sculpture are my two favorite mediums. Watching children create art and seeing their sense of joy completing a project brings me so much satisfaction.
