

Feb 2026: Harper Birds and Matisse Trees with Ms. Wendy
KSE looked at several cut paper designs of Henri Matisse. The students painted their papers with white paint and found objects. The next week they folded their papers and cut symmetrical trees. They used both pieces of paper on their background and learned about positive and negative space. PreK students learned about artist and illustrator Charlie Harper. PreK Inclusion students used found objects, cookie cutters, stamps, and toy cars to print hearts just in time for Valentine's Day!


Jan 2026: Japanese Art with Ms. Melanie
We learned about the Japanese Aesthetic, did a critical analysis of several Hokusai prints , composed a Japanese poem called a Haiku where the 3 lines of the poems must have 5-7-5 syllables, did paintings and printmaking with the carp / haiku as focal points. They also painted a separate piece of Mt. Fuji with cherry blossom branches.


Jan 2026: Snomen with Ms. Melissa
Elementary students learned about real artist clay that comes from the earth. They used clay to make circle slabs and spheres to put together snowmen with ear muffs. They also rolled coils for their carrot noses and some used coils for mouths. Glaze was then used to add color to these fun ceramic snowmen.


Dec 2025: Bear Collages with Ms. Brittany
Ms. Brittany’s Pre-K students made bear collages by painting with tempera and paint sticks, cutting, gluing, and drawing with Sharpie. They look dapper and are dressed for the holidays!


Dec 2025: Winter Projects with Mr. Bryan
This month in Mr. Flowers' Art class, students explored color values and color mixing through winter-themed projects. We created snowy landscapes using different values of blue and splattered white paint for falling snow. Then, students painted ornaments using primary colors and mixed them to create secondary colors, assembling them into festive Christmas trees. A joyful month of learning, creativity, and winter fun!


Nov 2025: Fall Artwork with Ms. Ashley W.
Miss Ashley has been creating a fall festival of artwork with her Kindergarten and Pre-K students. The Kindergarteners created beautiful fall tree collages using the outline of their hand and torn paper for leaves. To add emphasis to the fall weather students stamped warm color dots to show leaves blowing off of the trees. The Pre-K students got to experiment with printmaking using apple stamping to create an orange Halloween pumpkin. After they dried, students drew silly fac


Nov 2025: Frida Kahlo-inspired Still Life with Ms. Tricia
We studied Frida Kahlo and her art. We talked about the shapes of fruit, foreground and background. We used texture rollers to apply tempura paint and oil pastels to create a colorful still life. Most students used fruit templates that I made for them to trace and used adaptive scissors to cut the fruit out. The fruit was added with glue and pastels were encouraged to add outlines, highlights and more layers.


Nov 2025: Art Activities with Mr. Jason
I am happy to share with you what we have been up to in Mr. Jason’s Adaptive Art class this Autumn! High School students created these amazing “Concentric Circles” using paint and torn paper. We also designed our own robots to the music of Mr. Roboto by the band, Styx. Elementary students created cobwebs using marbles and paint in a “shake box”. Oct 2025-Owl Collages with Ms. Ashley
In Ms. Ashley’s Adaptive Art class, PSE students are learning about NEUTRAL COLORS and the season AUTUMN (or Fall). Students used the “pinch and tear” technique to create neutral-colored feathers for the oval-shaped body of their baby owl. During the second session for this project, students explored multiple co.llage techniques to add characteristics to their owl, create a night sky, and an autumn tree branch.
