We studied the work or Modrian. In particular we looked at how his work evolved from near realism into total abstraction. We also looked at one of his final works, Broadway Boogie Woogie (1942-43) and how this piece deviates from his traditional complete simplification of form. Downtown Boogie Woogie instead exemplifies rhythm and harmony in music. Its lines representing the tempo of a upbeat Broadway. The students then created their own Modrian inspired work using only primary colors and black.
