Sept2024: Quilt Art with Ms. Beth
I enjoyed the High Museum's exhibit, Patterns in Abstraction: Black Quilts for the High's Collection so much that I decided to kick off the year making a paper towel quilt with my elementary students. After learning about colors, students used their favorite colors to paint diffusing paper. We sprayed it with water to make them tie dye, in the Style of Marquetta Johnson's Nine Patch quilt. These were then cut into squares, triangles and rectangles for the students to glue onto their red painted paper towel. The kids really enjoyed adding their shapes, like puzzle pieces. After all squares were compete, we sprayed large diffusing paper green and I sewed it all together in a quilt. I love seeing my student's proud faces when they walk down the hall and see their beautiful piece.
