Decoupage Designs with Mr. Don

Decoupage is defined as the art or craft of decorating objects with paper cutouts. It also involves painting the glue on in such as way as to make the objects appears painted and not glued. Dyes and inks can also be mixed with the glue to create even more effects. It is with layering techniques that an almost three dimension feel can come with the art. For this my students looked at classical works of Mary Delany as well as the more contemporary designs of Basquiat. The students then preceded to cut both painted paper (that we prepared earlier) as well as magazines and newspapers to make their forms and designs. They then glued the pieces down and painted over them with a decoupage glue mixture. The was done over several layers to achieve the proper effect.
